Well, I really didn't think anyone was paying attention to my little 'ol blog until I talked to a good friend the other day who said she had read that I planted my garden but nothing since then. Well...(sniffle) I didn't think anyone cared. ;0)

So, that inspired me to get on the ball and write an update.

Last Sunday we planted 4 kinds of tomatoes...Roma's, Cherries, Better Boys, and Rutgers. I planted more onions too. These are yellow sweets. The onions I planted before didn't look like they were doing very well. We also planted sweet banana peppers, jalapenos, and red and green bell peppers. We still have room for more. Each year we try something experimental...that is something we've never planted before. Haven't decided what this year's experiment will be.

I don't think I mentioned this before, but we did plant green beans too. Everything seems to be doing well. I haven't planted any herbs yet. I need to get on that. I'll probably plan basil and oregano as usual. But I'll wait a month or two to plant cilantro until the tomato plants are well under way. I like to time the cilantro with the tomatoes for when I can salsa. Otherwise the cilantro is ready way too early and it goes to seed before the tomatoes are ready.

I've got a good start on my flowers in pots; I did three hanging planters with peat mats to hang around the spa deck. They turned out very well. But I still have a lot to do...and more flowers to buy. I kind of go hog wild with the flowers, but in the summers I spent so much time outside on the deck and I love to be surrounded by them and watch them grow and change.

That's about it for now. OH, 3 weeks to go until we head out west for our 2nd Yellowstone adventure. I've got lots of planning to do in that time, so I'd better get busy. Cowboy up!

Happy May

Well, it's finally May! After a very cold late April, things are starting to warm up here. Everything is beautiful and green, the flowering trees and shrubs are beautiful.

We starting planting in the garden today. I think this is the earliest we've ever planted. Last year our first planting was May 11th. I weeded out my herb garden and, with the help of a very healthy earthworm the size of a baby snake, the soil is loose and ready for planting. Though it's a little early to plant herbs yet, I did plant lettuce, spinach, sugar peas, and two kinds of onions; Utah Sweet and Vidalias. We bought potatoes, but didn't get them in the ground today. Maybe sometime next week.

Only 4 weeks till our next vacation, when we'll travel out west again to that magical, inspiring wonderland called Yellowstone!!!

Happy May!!!
